How to Convert Docx to JPG for Free – A Step by Step Guide

Published

If you need pictures of a Word document’s pages, a practical workflow is DOCX to PDF followed by PDF to JPG. The first step creates the page layout; the second turns those pages into images. Keep the editable DOCX because the JPG files will be pictures, not editable paragraphs.

Step 1: export the Word document as PDF

In desktop Word, use Save As or Save a Copy and select PDF. Review the exported pages before continuing. See Microsoft’s PDF export guide. Access to Word is separate from the conversion itself.

For a free desktop office-suite alternative, open the file in LibreOffice Writer and use its PDF export command. Check the layout after changing applications. You can also compare the DOCX-to-PDF methods if you need a web option.

LeoPDFree does not support Word-to-PDF conversion. It is used for the PDF-to-image step below, after a suitable application has created the PDF.

Step 2: convert the PDF pages to JPG

  1. Open LeoPDFree on a compatible Windows computer.
  2. Choose PDF-to-image conversion and add the exported PDF.
  3. Select JPG and review the settings offered by your installed version.
  4. Run conversion and open the output images to check them.

LeoPDFree is free and performs this supported conversion locally without uploading the file for processing. See our PDF-to-image guide. Use the stable 64-bit Windows download or 32-bit download, checking the package requirements first.

LeoPDF store editions also perform supported PDF-to-image conversion locally. Paid cloud processing with OCR applies to conversion to Word or Excel, rather than this JPG task. You can compare editions and platforms.

Review readability before sharing

Check small text, tables, diagrams and page orientation. JPG compression can reduce detail, so inspect the result at the size at which it will be used. If your app offers resolution or quality settings, compare a sample page before exporting a large set.

Keep the images together in a clearly named folder and check their order. If the recipient needs selectable text, an accessible document or an editable file, send an appropriate source or PDF instead of assuming that pictures meet the same need.

A screenshot is a different shortcut

For a small visual reference, a screenshot may be sufficient. It captures the displayed area rather than exporting every document page, so check whether anything is cropped or unreadable. Do not rename a DOCX file to .jpg: changing the filename does not perform conversion.
